RULES

From what I can learn online, the summer leagues appear to follow USA Swimming rules with a few exceptions.

SWIM TEAM TRYOUTS

  1. Get as much information as you can before you arrive for the try-out. It’s good to ask beforehand what you will be asked to perform at the tryout. Practice everything on the list, even if you already know how to swim all the strokes.

  2. Listen carefully to instructions at the tryout. It’s not the time to show the coach everything you can do. It’s the time to listen to the coach and do exactly as instructed. Show off your listening skills as well as your swimming skills.

  3. If you do not pass a component of the test, ask for feedback and ask to try again. You may be able to learn to do something new or better at the tryout, and demonstrate that skill.

  4. If you do not make the team, get a list of requirements in writing from the coach. Get all the information you need to make sure you understand what to practice. If possible, schedule another tryout before you leave.

  5. Contact me if you need help. I can help you get ready.

  6. When you make the team, get together with your adult and take the Intro to Competitive Swimming course. The link is at the top of this page. Then swim for good times!
